Our World Awards 2027: Bringing Global Citizenship to Life in Primary Classrooms

New stories, engaging videos and free classroom resources are ready to inspire pupils across Ireland!

The Our World Awards 2027 programme was officially launched recently at St Olaf’s National School in Dublin, marking the beginning of another exciting year of global learning, creativity and pupil-led action in primary schools across Ireland.

Supported by Irish Aid, the Government of Ireland’s international development programme, the Our World Awards invites pupils from 3rd to 6th class to explore global citizenship, discover how Ireland is making a difference around the world and share their own ideas for creating a fairer, more sustainable future.

More pages, more stories, more inspiration!

This year, we are delighted to introduce an expanded 20-page pupil magazine, increased from 12 pages and packed with colourful stories, activities, real-life examples and thought-provoking challenges.

One of the highlights for 2027 is a beautiful new case study exploring Life Below Water in Morrungulo, Mozambique. Through three engaging short videos, pupils are transported to this stunning coastal community to discover how local people, supported by Irish Aid and its partners, are working to protect marine life and conserve the ocean for future generations.

There are fascinating connections to explore with Ireland’s own coastal communities, from the importance of healthy oceans to the relationship between local livelihoods, the environment and sustainable development.

Another much-loved classroom story returns this year, with four new videos from the Niassa Reserve in Mozambique. Pupils will reconnect with Paula Ferro, who shares her experiences and insights into gender equality and the difference it can make to families and communities.

These real-world stories provide wonderful opportunities to spark classroom conversations, encourage critical thinking and help pupils understand the connections between their own lives and those of children and communities around the world.

Global learning that fits naturally into the classroom

The Our World Awards is designed to complement the Primary Curriculum Framework, supporting pupil voice, inquiry-based learning, creativity, teamwork and problem-solving.

Teachers can access a wide range of free, curriculum-linked lesson plans, activities and teaching resources, making it easy to explore global citizenship education in ways that suit their class.

Pupils can then bring their learning to life through an Our World Awards project, using their creativity to communicate what matters to them and how we can all contribute to a better world.

Hear from teachers and pupils!

Throughout the year, keep an eye on our Facebook page and social media channels as we share inspiring stories from schools that have taken part in the programme. Hear directly from teachers and pupils about their experiences, their projects and what they’ve enjoyed most about exploring global citizenship in their classrooms.
