Department of Education and Skills Sanctions New Educate Together School in Dublin 8

Portobello Educate TogetherEducate Together is pleased to announce that it been allocated a roll number to open a new national school in Dublin 8 this September. The school has been sanctioned by the Department of Education and Skills 'in response to the substantial and long-standing demand for an Educate Together school in the Dublin 8 area'. Department of Education and Skills officials are at an advanced stage in securing accommodation for the school.

The roll number gives Educate Together legal sanction to put in place the structures necessary to open the school. The first stage of this, recruitment of a principal, will commence immediately.

Educate Together CEO Paul Rowe commented:

"The sanctioning of a new Educate Together national school in Dublin 8 is very good news for all the parents who have campaigned for for it for so long. That this school is opening in September is in no small part due to the measured, respectful and concerted campaign by the members of the Portobello Educate Together Start-up Group".

Demand for Educate Together places has been particularly acute in Dublin City where its schools are heavily over-subscribed. The campaign to open a school in Dublin 8 has been running for over three years.

As with other Educate Together schools this new school will be a multi-denominational national school teaching the national curriculum. Over 15,000 pupils are currently being educated in 65 Educate Together schools nationwide.
