Gerard O’Leary Appointed Principal of Celbridge Community School

Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board and Educate Together, as joint patrons, are delighted to announce the appointment of Gerard O’Leary as Principal of Celbridge Community School

The Cork native began his teaching career in 2001 in Mount Sackville Secondary School, Chapelizod, where he taught History, English and CSPE and also acted as Deputy Principal until his departure to Coláiste na hInse, Bettystown in 2012. His experience of working as both Deputy Principal and Principal in a start-up school context in Coláiste na hInse ensures that he brings to the role a wealth of experience in the establishment of a new school.

Gerard holds honours awards for a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Higher Diploma in Education and a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership (Toraiocht) from Maynooth University.

He is excited about working closely with teachers, parents and students to create a friendly and engaging school environment. Gerard identifies the provision of a wide and varied curriculum that seeks to provide a holistic education for all as a key component for an effective school and is a strong advocate of collaboration and the use of ICT in the classroom.

Gerard has always maintained a deep interest in extracurricular activities and their associated benefits for students. He has mentored Gaelic football, Basketball and Debating teams at schools since his teaching career began.

Commenting on his appointment, Gerard said:

"Celbridge Community School will be a truly modern and exciting school that will be a leader in innovation and will ensure that every student is provided with the opportunities to reach their true potential in a caring environment where every student is happy.”
