Raising Involvement in School Engagement (RISE) – Exploring Student Involvement in Governance and Decision-Making in Educate Together Schools and Across the Educate Together Network.
All Educate Together primary and second level schools are invited to complete an anonymous survey on student involvement in decision making at school. All principals have received a link to the survey, and we welcome one response per school. This is the first national survey on this topic in Educate Together schools. It is being carried out by Dublin City University on behalf of Educate Together and is funded by Research Ireland.
The purpose of this study is to:
- Conduct an initial exploration into ways that schools provide opportunities for students to participate in decision making
- Identify some examples of good practice
- Highlight what additional support school leaders require to strengthen meaningful and consistent student participation opportunities.
We hope that the findings will enable national Educate Together office staff to:
- Strengthen the student participation support provided to Educate Together schools
- Create deeper engagement by students at a network level
- Strengthen the network’s position as leaders in student participation
- Raise funding for more in-depth research with students about their experiences and perspectives
- Influence national education policy.
A research report will be provided to Educate Together and the findings will be shared with members at network conferences and meetings (e.g. AGM/ teachers conferences/ Principals/ Deputy Principals events).
