The Department of Education’s Primary School Survey 2030 is now open. This survey is for parents to tell the Department of Education how they feel about the issue of school choice in Ireland.
It’s an opportunity for you to tell the Department that you want to see more choice in schools – more non-religious school options, more mixed-sex schools, and more school places in currently oversubscribed multi-denominational schools.

Who is the survey for, and how long does it take to do?
- The survey is for parents and guardians of children aged 0 – 12 years.
- I.e., anyone with children who’ll be starting primary in the next few years, or kids who are already in primary school.
- The survey only takes 5-10 mins to fill out.
- It asks a few questions about your school choice preferences, a few about your family size and location, and if your children are currently in school.
- It’s very quick and straightforward to do.
Why take the survey?
The Department of Education is using this survey to gather parents’ preferences for schools – such as the need for more non-religious schools, and more mixed-sex schools.
The data from this survey will be used to make choices about schools – so it’s really important that the Department of Education hear from parents who want to see more choice in education in Ireland. Parents like you!
Information from this survey will be used to identify schools where parents would prefer multi-denominational patronage, and for drawing up school planning areas for new schools in the future.
