Summer Courses

 

Educate Together is delighted to be offering a suite of summer courses once again this year. These courses are aimed at both primary and second-level teachers and are fully-sanctioned for EPV (Extra Personal Vacation) days by the Department of Education and Skills. There are four courses in all - three online and one blended. 

And just to make sure everyone knows, the Department of Education has recently clarified regulations in relation to summer courses. It’s now possible to complete 2 online courses for 4 EPV days during the year!  

Blended Course: An Introduction to Educate Together and the Learn Together Curriculum

This course offers a fascinating insight into the background and origins of both Educate Together and its ethical education curriculum, the Learn Together. Find out about 1970s Ireland and the rise of multi-denominational education. Learn how an ethical education curriculum can grow and develop, finally consolidating under four specific headings: Moral and Spiritual Development; Equality and Justice; Belief Systems and Ethics and the Environment. Immerse yourself in a variety of lessons and resources for all age groupings under all four headings.

The face-to-face section of this course will take place in the offices of Educate Together, 10 - 12 Hogan Place, Dublin 2 on August 18th, 19th and 22nd.

The online section of this course will take place on Aug 20th and 21st.

Online Course: Teaching Ethics and Social Justice: Equality and Justice; Ethics and the Environment

An in-depth look at two of the four strands of the Learn Together, Educate Together’s ethical education curriculum. Find out about climate change, surely the greatest challenge that current school-going students will face upon reaching adulthood. Examine the lives of those who’ve questioned the system and left a lasting mark - people who’ve genuinely made a difference. Explore the concepts of identity and diversity. Learn about the very nature of democracy and the meaningful engagement school-going children can have with this process. Consider the link between inequality and access to the world’s resources. And achieve all of this while choosing from a wide range of practical ideas and resources.

The course will be of particular interest to people interested in teaching Ethical Education and/or the ethical aspects of Social Environmental and Scientific Education (SESE) Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) or Intercultural Education. Online courses can be taken any time between July and August in any Location (20 hours duration) This CPD course is DES approved for EPV days.

Online Course: Teaching Morality in a Culturally-Diverse Ireland: Moral and Spiritual Development; Belief Systems

An in-depth look at two of the four strands of the Learn Together, Educate Together's ethical education curriculum. Explore feelings and values from a whole-school and individual perspective. Examine the nuances of mental health. Delve into the beliefs and practices of the main world religions. Learn about atheism and other belief systems. Discover the joys of meditation and the importance of spending time alone. Confront challenges and dilemmas when religion and culture come into conflict. And all with the practicalities of the classroom very much in focus.

The course will be of particular interets to people teaching in or planning to teach in Educate Together Schools. Online courses can be taken any time between July and August in any Location (20 hours duration) This CPD course is DES approved for EPV days.
