Good Practice Templates & Policies
A wide variety of decisions must be taken on a daily basis by those who manage and teach in our schools. It is important that such decisions are considered and informed. School policies provide an overall plan for an area of activity in the life of the school, which is intended to guide and determine decisions.
It is the function of the board of management to formulate such policies, in consultation with parents, pupils, and teachers. In formulating such policies, regard must be had to the characteristic ethos and particular circumstances of the school.
Often the process of coming together as a school community to reflect upon a specific area (e.g. interculturalism) will be as important as the product which results. Policy formulation is only the first step towards full implementation, which ultimately will depends upon effective communication, and indeed upon the democratic mandate secured through the consultation process.
