In October 2011, Educate Together submitted 12 applications to open new primary schools in the areas listed below. We expect notification of the Department of Education and Skills decision regarding patronage of these schools in January 2012.
2011 also saw a key development project, Second-level Schools, move into top gear. Following on from the positive work done in 2010, Educate Together’s Education and Network Development team ran five second-level campaigns in 2011. Strong local and national advocacy, parent led campaigning plus ongoing marketing and awareness activity underpin applications in Lusk, Drogheda, Greystones and Dublin 15. These campaigns will run until the end of February with patronage announcements being made in May 2012. It is our expectation that all this hard work will be rewarded with a number of successful applications.
Second-level
We are currently campaigning and seeking expressions of interest for second-level schools in the following areas:
Lusk, Co Dublin (2013)
Dublin 15, Co Dublin (2014)
Drogheda, Co Louth (2014)
Greystones, Co Wicklow (2014)
Educate Together’s Regional Development Team are working closely with local start-up groups to generate local support for our submissions. Some of the local second-level campaigns have been running for a number of years and have collated strong expression of interest lists and have elicited support from local community leaders and political representatives. Great momentum was added to the campaign by the formal recognition last May of Educate Together as a second-level patron by the Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn T.D. We expect notification of the Department’s decision regarding patronage in May 2012.
