Educate Together News Release 2 October 2007
Educate Together lodges its intent to apply to open new schools in 20 areas in 2008.
Educate Together has recently submitted formal notifications of its intention to apply to open schools in September 2008. The “intent to apply notification” does not constitute any guarantee that Educate Together will either make a formal application to open a school or proceed to open a school in these areas in September 2008. These notifications are necessary as a patron can only make a formal application to open a school if notification forms have been submitted. The deadline for formal applications is January 31st 2008. If such applications are successful, Educate Together will only proceed to open schools if the Department of Education and Science provides a reasonable level of funding to support the professional services necessary to allow a school to open in a responsible and efficient manner and where there is a realistic and credible guarantee that permanent buildings are being provided for the proposed school.
The areas for which Educate Together has submitted “Notification of Intent” forms (NI1) are:-
Athlone, Co. Westmeath

This list is in alphabetical order and the likelihood of successfully opening a school in a particular area is not indicated by its position on the list.
The areas listed reflect the growing demand from families for Educate Together Model schools for their children. Many of the areas also correspond to areas of rapid housing growth in which the Department of Education and Science have active school building plans
In a related development, Educate Together is immediately doubling the staff in its new primary schools section and is starting a recruitment drive for additional staff to support its programme of new primary school opening.
