Executive Committee/Patron Training
The passing of the Education
Act 1998 and the Education (Welfare) Act 2000 have both impacted
on the role of the Patron. Changes in general trends in education
(e.g. the purchase of school sites by the Department of Education
and Science) have meant that the definition of the role is changing.
Whereas Boards of Management have a four year cycle, members of
the Patron Body, the Executive Committee, are elected each year.
This can mean that areas of expertise become lost to Patrons over
time. Educate Together provides training for Patrons, enabling
them to explore their role, in the light of existing legislation,
and precedent in each individual school.
