Letter to the Minister (updated 2007 version)

To: Ms. Mary Hanafin, T.D.
Minister for Education and Science
Department of Education and Science
Marlborough Street
Dublin 1

Date: .....................

Area:  ……………………….

Dear Minister,
I am a parent/legal guardian of a child named ……………………………………… whose date of birth is ………………………
It is my wish that this child be educated in the inclusive ethos of an Educate Together school.

I have become aware that there are no places available in an Educate Together school within a reasonable distance from my home.

I have also been made aware that there are major barriers to the provision of new Educate Together schools as a result of inadequacies in the system of new school openings operated by your Department.

I am applying to you to take the decisions necessary to ensure that my lawful preference for my child to attend an Educate Together school can be realized.

Please will you inform me what steps you intend to take to ensure that my rights in relation to the education of my child as detailed in the Constitution of Ireland are protected.

Please will you also indicate to me how I can meet my legal obligations under the Education Welfare Act (2000) in this situation.

I look forward to receiving a response from you within the next 15 working days.

Yours sincerely,
