Educate Together demands that the capitation grant in Primary schools should be at least on a par with that provided to the second level sector. Proposed by Kilkenny School Project. Motion passed.

Motion 6: Capitation and funding.
ET demands that the Government should provide adequate funding for the employment of ancillary staff (secretarial/caretaking/cleaning) to fully cover the requirements of each individual school, as the present grant is seriously inadequate. Proposed by Kilkenny School Project. Motion passed.

Motion 7: Class size.
We call on ET to campaign for class size to be reduced to a ratio of 24-1 for Sept 2007. Proposed by Mullingar ETNS.

reducing the maximum class size in primary schools and work actively towards the continued reduction of same. Proposed by Kilkenny School Project. Motion passed.

Motion 11: The AGM calls on Educate Together to:
As a matter of priority, initiate and bring to conclusion a process, the purpose of which will be to define our unique Ethos as an educational network. Employ this definition as a benchmark in mapping our way forward, including our position on school size. Proposed by Swords ETNS. Motion passed.

(Monkstown Educate Together National School)

That Educate Together should represent to the Department the inadequacy of the Grant for the implementation of the new Science component of the revised curriculum.

(Monkstown Educate Together National School)

Educate Together will campaign at any appropriate opportunity for the proper funding of our schools. This campaign should seek a 100% increase in the capitation grant.

Motion proposed by David Denny, Secretary, Educate Together

Motion seconded by Paddie Murphy, SCSP

For: 23 Against 1 No abstentions

    6. Educate Together must urgently represent to the Minister for Education and Science the absolute necessity of allowing Principals administration time from the very inception of a school. 7. Composites the following two motions:

We welcome changes by the Minister for Education and Science, which allows some smaller schools to avail of ancillary and support workers and note that for many schools in our sector such work has been passed out with the assistance of workers under local FAS/CE Schemes. We resolve to put to the Minister for Education and Science that this assistance has proved invaluable to most schools, that schools have given valuable experience to such workers, but that under the current Scheme there is little or no allowance or attraction for such workers to remain once trained and experienced. We further resolve to open negotiations for classroom/teacher’s assistants, administrative clerks and cleaner/caretakers to be employed on a part-time basis, directly by the Minister, or directly by a local community/State agency funded by the Minister for Education and Science for this purpose.
